I stopped the world’s press photographing Prince Charles with Darth Vader
Welcome back everyone and I hope you are all living life in the fast lane. If you are well done and if not cling on to the wreckage as that is life. We must all adapt as age takes its toll. Decades ago I could run 100 yards in five seconds but today I can only run ten yards provided it is downhill and wind assisted. However, enough about my flatulence health problem and today I am going to take you behind the scenes regarding Elstree Studios.

The Underground Map

The Underground Map is a website dedicated to some of the more obscure pieces of London Town (as well as some of the more well-known places).

The Underground Map project is creating a decade-by-decade series of historical maps of the area which lies within London's M25 ring.

From the 1800s until the 1950s, you can see how London grew from a city which only reached as far as Park Lane into the post war megapolis we know today.

Find the streets of London by clicking STREETS above or explore the maps by clicking MAP.

The Underground Map works best if you log in using Facebook.

LOCATIONS ON THE UNDERGROUND MAP
Blythe House:   Blythe House is a listed building located at 23 Blythe Road, West Kensington.
Cadby Hall:   Cadby Hall was a major office and factory complex in Hammersmith, London which was the headquarters of pioneering catering company Joseph Lyons and Co. for almost a century.
Chimes Shopping Centre, UB8:   Chimes Shopping Centre is in central Uxbridge.
Eaves Housing for Women:   Eaves Housing for Women (Eaves) was a charitable company based in London.
Gloucester Road:   Gloucester Road: Where Rumpole of the Bailey hung his hat.
Heathrow Airport Central bus station:   Heathrow Airport Central bus station serves London Heathrow Airport.
Heathrow Airside Road Tunnel:   The Heathrow Airside Road Tunnel (ART) is a tunnel connecting the airside roads around Terminals 1, 2 and 3 to those around Terminal 5.

PHOTOS OF THE AREA
An Omnibus Ride to Piccadilly Circus:   An Omnibus Ride to Piccadilly Circus, Mr Gladstone Travelling with Ordinary Passengers, 1885
London in 1457:   Goulston Street is a thoroughfare running north-south from Wentworth Street to Whitechapel High Street.
Stockwell station (1930):   Clapham Road in 1930, showing Stockwell station. Binfield Road runs off to the right.
White Conduit Street (1950s):   A line of children hold hands as they walk along the middle of White Conduit Street towards the junction with Chapel Market in Islington in the 1950s.

It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.
