Council Leader officially opens Hawley Primary School
Camden Council Leader, Councillor Georgia Gould, last night (Wednesday, 17 January) officially opened Hawley Primary School’s award-winning new building.

The new building replaces Hawley Infants School, which was based at its former Camden Town site for more than 100 years. The infants school had outgrown its previous site, with no space for expansion and no linked junior school for pupils to attend once they reached aged seven.

The new primary school, in Hawley Road, is an ‘all-through’ primary school for up to 210 pupils, with a 26-place nursery. It currently has 176 children up to age nine and these pupils, who would previously have had to go to a new school when they turned seven, will now be able to stay on at Hawley until age 11.

John Rocque Map of Hampstead (1762).
John Rocque (c. 1709–1762) was a surveyor, cartographer, engraver, map-seller and the son of Huguenot émigrés. Roque is now mainly remembered for his maps of London. This map dates from the second edition produced in 1762. London and his other maps brought him an appointment as cartographer to the Prince of Wales in 1751. His widow continued the business after his death. The map of Hampstead covers an area stretching from the edge in the northwest of present-day Dollis Hill to Islington in the southeast.
