Liverpool Street Station opened in 1874, replacing Bishopsgate as the main London terminus for the Great Eastern Railway. By 1895, it had more platforms than any other terminal in London.
Liverpool Street Underground station is the sixth-busiest on the Tube network, serving the Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines.
During the First World War, a 1916 air raid killed 16 people on site and 146 in surrounding areas. In the lead-up to the Second World War, Liverpool Street served as the arrival point for thousands of Jewish child refugees coming to London through the Kindertransport rescue operation.
