Vere Street around the turn of the twentieth century.

In 1904, F. Steward - the cheap funeral man - vacated the premises he had been renting for 50 years as did all of the other residents of the street. Vere Street (Clare Market to Duke Street) was then demolished as part of the Aldwych/Kingsway “improvement scheme”
