Elkstone Road replaced Southam Street around 1970.
Plans took place to clear away the poor housing of this area in the 1960s. By 1969, the eastern section of Southam Street had been cleared and Trellick Tower was completed in 1972. Elkstone Road also dates from this time with 1970s housing replacing the Victorian stock.
