Bavaria Road, N19
Upper Holloway mosaic roundel (2021)

The classic late Victorian comic novel ’Diary of a Nobody’ was set in Upper Holloway.

Bavaria Road was a curious First World War renaming.

Laid out as Blenheim Road in the 1850s, the name of the road commemorated the battle of the same name and the Oxfordshire palace. During the First World War, many London roads with German names were renamed. Strangely Blenheim Road, commemorating an English victory, was changed to Bavaria Road, a Land of Germany.
