Beak Street is named after Thomas Beake, one of the Queen’s messengers.

Beake in the late 17th century, obtained land on the north side of the current street, between Regent Street and Kingly Street.

Part of the street was known as Silver Street until 1883 - belonging to the Pulteney Estate.
