Bonner Road is one of a series of streets named for Edmund Bonner, Bishop of London.

Bonner Road was marked on some older maps as Bonner’s Road and first shown on maps after the 1840s.

Bonners Hall was the residence of ’Bloody Bonner’, a Catholic Bishop of London who burnt some 300 Protestants at the stake.
