Camden Passage was built as Cumberland Row in 1767.
Camden Passage was laid out behind the buildings on Upper Street - then ’Islington High Street’.
An antiques market was founded in the 1960s, in conjunction with the Metropolitan Borough of Islington by John Payton.
A former tram shed was reopened on 14 November 1979, as The Mall Antiques Arcade. At its height it housed over 35 dealers on its ground and lower ground floors but it closed in 2008. The closure of the arcade is reflected in the reduction in the number of antique traders in the Camden Passage.
Camden Passage hosts an antique market every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, a book market on Thursday and Friday and a bric-a-brac market on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
