Once south of the North Circular Road, this section of Colney Hatch Lane is part of Muswell Hill.
Friern Barnet’s road system was established by the late 15th century and the main north-south routing in those days was the long road which makes up Friern Barnet Lane in the north, becoming Colney Hatch Lane in the south. It had been the principal highway from London to the north of England until replaced by the Great North Road by the early 14th century.
Colney Hatch Lane got its modern name in 1846. Earlier it was Halliwick Street (Halwykstrete) in 1398 and Muswell Hill Lane or Aspen Lane in 1801.
