Duck Lane was possibly known for duck baiting.

The Bricklayer’s Arms, a pub with a cheap room upstairs, was the location where the Rolling Stones had their initial rehearsals between March and April 1962. The pub was located on the corner of Broadwick Street and Duck Lane.

Earlier in the same year, Brian Jones had placed an advertisement in Jazz Week, seeking musicians to form a band. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards responded to this ad, and auditions were held above the Bricklayer’s Arms. Subsequently, the band’s first gig took place in July 1962, just around the corner at the Marquee Club on Oxford Street.
