Greenland Place followed the line of Church Path.

Church Path ran through fields from the Mother Red Cap to St Pancras Old Church.

By 1800 building was occurring near to the pub but as the road extended south, three names were adopted: Greenland Place nearest to the Mother Red Cap, Greenland Street in the middle and York Place in the south.

In 1893, the original Greenland Place became part of Hamilton Street and the rest of it newly minted as Greenland Place.
