Kynance Place was originally called St Georges Place.

There were plans to build a large sewer along Gloucester Road but its building was delayed until the 1860s.

Until there was a connecting sewer available, the Inderwick Estate was forced to construct a large open cesspool where Kynance Place now stands.

The northern side of Kynance Place has a line of small shops.
