Husband Street likely derived its name from Thomas Husbands, a painter.
Thomas Husbands, a painter, to whom Joseph Collens, one of James Pollett’s associates in the Colman Hedge Close development, was granted several leases in 1701. Buildings on the north side of Husband Street were demolished in 1852 for Ingestre Buildings, and those on the south side were removed in 1880 for the construction of a London School Board school.
In 1868 New Street and Husband Street were together renamed Ingestre Place.
