Authority to lay down Lincoln Street was given in the 1845 Chelsea Improvement Act.

Stroud Lincoln was one of the trustees of James Colvill, the owner of a nursery ground on this site.

Almost half the properties of the new Lincoln Street appeared in the Michaelmas Rate for 1846, and all but one of the remaining houses were occupied by the middle of 1848.One of Chelsea’s most celebrated nurseries disappeared to make way for the development.
