Manchester Square is a small but well-preserved Georgian square in Marylebone.

Much of the northern side is occupied by a mansion once known as Manchester House and later as Hertford House - now home of the Wallace Collection.

In 1814, Manchester Square became briefly famous, when newspapers reported that a "pig-faced woman" was living there.

The north side of the square has a central mansion, Hertford House - once Manchester House - used since 1897 to house the Wallace Collection of fine and decorative arts.

Early in the 20th century, the ICI company moved into new headquarters in the square, designed to blend in with the existing architecture.

The cover photograph for the Beatles first album ’Please Please’ was taken in 1963 the central stairwell inside EMI House in Manchester Square (now demolished). A repeat photo was taken in 1969 at the same spot.
