Harroway Road was laid out to plans by George Todd.

Most of the land in the angle between the railway tracks and York Road and Lombard Roads was built up from the late 1860s, laid out to plans by George Todd.

Acquired in 1868, development was protracted and not straightforward. Todd devised a street grid: Harroway Road, Holman Road, Totteridge Road, Urswicke Road (later Badric Road) and Yelverton Road.

New frontages to York Road and Lombard Road retained two of the existing dwellings, Walnut Tree Cottage and another house, amongst the planned new terraces.
