Stanley Road has a bend to avoid a former house.

William Morley build Derby Lodge in the 1850s but alas had to sell its grounds to meet his debts in the 1860s.

A new road - Stanley Road - was constructed through the grounds of Derby Lodge. As the house would had laid in its path, it development a bend to avoid Derby Lodge. "33 Plots of valuable freehold land having important frontages and immediately available for the erection of Villa Residences" were offered for sale by auction in 1866. The houses on Stanley Road were built as a result.
