York Road is an older road of Battersea.

The Archbishops of York possessed a significant estate in Battersea from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Their manor house, known as York Place, was situated by the Thames at the mouth of the Falcon Brook. Over time, the area saw various industrial developments.

In the 18th century, enamel manufacturing became a prominent industry, taking advantage of the resources and location. The enamel works operated in the area until the 19th century.

After 1850, Price’s Candle factory took over the site previously occupied by the enamel works.
