Operation Overlord was the codename for the Battle of Normandy.
Operation Overlord was launched on 6 June 1944 with the Normandy Landings (D-Day). It involved just under 7,000 sea-going vessels, 150,000 soldiers and 1,500 tanks to be transported to France in the first 48 hours, 11,590 powered aircraft and 3,500 gliders.
