Lexington Close is a cul-de-sac that didn’t last.
Lexington Close was built along with the rest of Stratfield Road between 1966 and 1968. The streets were built on farmland of Tilehouse Farm some of whose remaining fields which had become surrounded by the urbanisation of Borehamwood.
Lexington Close was a standard cul-de-sac for a couple of years. After the laying out of Stratfield Road, the dairy farm had been left with one large field behind the houses of Stratfield Road, Theobald Street, Croxdale Road and Barton Way. However even that field was threatened with the growing housing needs and was purchased in 1969.
A new road - Chandos Road - was then built with access from the closes of Stratfield Road which were extended to form through roads but keeping their names.
Chandos Road was not the final field to go from Tilehouse Farm. Into the 1980s, cows still roamed in a tiny field behind Lexington Close. Tilehouse Close finally put paid to the rural life in the 1990s.
