Park Road was formerly called Gutterhedge Lane.
It is one of the oldest lanes of Hendon. While much of the London area went under various renaming schemes to avoid duplicate names, Park Road went rather the other way - Gutterhedge Lane was uniquely called in Greater London whereas Park Road certainly is not.
The Neeld family - local landowners - donated land in Park Road for Hendon Cottage Hospital which existed between 1913 and 1987.
