York Place is an old roadname of the area.
A mediaeval hamlet called
Bridge lay around a bridge across the Falcon Brook. It gave its name to a house and estate called Bridge Court, which belonged to the archbishops of York. This house, now demolished, was leased by the archbishops to the Battersea Enamel Works c1750.
The Falcon Brook, which discharged into the Thames as
Battersea Creek, is now completely buried.
