Hemans Street is the name of two streets in Vauxhall, the modern version being slightly south of the original.

The first name used was Portland Street, being renamed in the late 19th century.

The Hemans Street Estate development was a social housing scheme, one of the first to be embarked on by Lambeth Council. Clearing away the previous housing, the new scheme was deisgned to provide quality low cost flats as part of a nationwide slum-clearance programme during the late 1930s.

The Fount Street development was completed in 1947 and built to the south of the previous Heman Street. Other housing developments were to follow, leaving little in the area of what was there before.
