South Park opened in March 1904.

The land had been owned by Charlotte Sulivan, a naturalist. She sold the land to Fulham Borough Council for use as a recreation ground. The land had formerly been parts of Broom House Farm, Southfields Farm and latterly a nursery of fruit trees leased to Messrs Veithch and Sons.

When South Park opened, it was described as "Possessing over 20 acres, cricket, tennis, plus other open air games were offered and there was a bandstand, refreshment pavilion, ladies and gentleman’s lavatories and a shelter."
