Matthew’s Place was built next to a factory on Hackney Road.
Andrew Pritchard, a tilemaker, had bought the Bullocks Estate on the north side of Hackney Road by 1792. He contracted William Olley, a Woolwich bricklayer, to build houses. The houses, called Matthew’s Place, had been built by 1800.
Matthew’s Place was incorporated into Hackney Road in 1862.
