Frog Island, W12
Shepherds Bush
Frog Island was the name of a lane leading north from the Uxbridge Road.

Frog Island was originally a lane running alongside a rivulet called Counter’s Creek until the latter was bricked over to provide the route for the new West London Railway in the 1840s.

Shepherds Bush was little more than a village and the area was described by a surveyor as "unpaved and full of rats, the surface strewn with refuse of almost every conceivable description, offensive and disgusting, emitting effluvia of the most nauseous character". Despite this damning report the West London Railway hoped to generate passenger revenue and a substantial brick station was opened om 27 May 1844, next to the existing coal depot. The station had a single platform and access was from Uxbridge Road along Frog Island.

The station did not live up to expectations and closed with the line on 1 December 1844.
