George Eyre House, NW8
St Johns Wood tube station

One of the oft-repeated London underground memes is that St John’s Wood shares no letters in common with mackerel. To be fair, Hoxton on the London Overground also doesn’t...

George Eyre House was designed by architect Louis de Soissons.

One of five blocks of flats built for the St Marylebone Housing Association between 1945 and 1950, careful planning on a restricted site gave a varied frontage on the street. In George Eyre House the open archways which originally led to the rear courtyard to gain access to the upper storey flats had to be replaced by front doors - unfortunately in the 1990s the balconies and gardens at the back became a haunt of drug users, much to the distress of the residents.
