Middlesex Street was north of Chapel Street and partly lost to the Midland Railway Somers Town Goods Depot.
The street pattern changed radically after the arrival of the Midland Railway. Middlesex Street, which once crossed Phoenix Street, was home to costermongers and woodcutters, both male and female. It was noted for its ’marine stores’ - shops selling very cheap goods.
Middlesex Street vanished in the 1890s to be replaced by Purchese Street.
