Alma Street, like most ’Alma’ roads in London, marks the first battle of the Crimean War.

Alma Street commemorates the Battle of the River Alma on 20 September 1854. It was the first engagement in the Crimean War. Alma Street is part of Kentish Town’s ‘Crimean’ area, developed in the mid 1850s.
