Both Cross Street and York Road were renamed as Bagshot Street in 1868.
York Road originated about 1830.
The southern end of the street was hit by a V2 rocket during the Second World War. Four prefabs were erected on the east side but these were redeveloped post-war as a block of flats.
The northern end was redeveloped in 1946 and Southborough House was built.
