Bridgewater Square is an historic square near to the Barbican.

The original Bridgewater House was a stately home which was destroyed by fire in which two of Lord Bridgewater’s sons died.

In 1688, Sir Christopher Wren and George Jackson bought its site for £4400. Amongst others, Nicholas Hawksmoor and Edward Strong bought building plots there.

All the original houses have now been replaced or demolished.
