Cardington Street is a rare London street in that it closed for good as late as 2017.
In 1883, Parliamentary powers were obtained in order to purchase part of the burial ground of St. James, to abolish Whittlebury Street and divert Cardington Street to a changed alignment. On the ground thus added to the west of the station important extensions, including Platforms 12–15, were begun in 1887 and opened in 1892.
It was closed completely for work on the HS2 extension to Euston station.
