Cunnington Street is part of the Acton Green district of Chiswick Park.

Orchards occupied the Acton Green area until the developers arrived in 1870.

The Acton Green district gained renown for its laundry industry. In 1873, about 60 laundries operated in the area, expanding to over 170 by 1890. Most washing was done manually, with the 1901 census recording 568 men and 2448 women as laundry workers. By 1956, the number of laundries had decreased to 50, all mechanised, yet still representing Britain’s largest concentration of such businesses. This industry fostered ancillary trades producing laundry essentials like baskets, hampers, mangles and washing machines.

Acton Green had a variety of small shops along Cunnington Street (and Kingswood Road), including sweet shops, chippies, grocers and off-licences. The neighbourhood once hosted several schools, all of which have since closed.
