A bungalow town of 69 shacks, with wells and earth closets, sprang up in the 1880s at Lea Bridge Gardens.

Lea Bridge Gardens, west of Lea Bridge station, by the 1880s hosted a wooden mission church.

The occupants of the road reared ducks and grew vegetables. The buildings were demolished in the 1930s and the site is now mainly industrial.
