The Caroline Estate dates from 1952-1953.
Queen Caroline Street was earlier known as Queen Street. Queen Caroline was the wife of King George IV, and the couple had briefly lived in the nearby Brandenburgh House. The names of the mid-rise residential blocks on this section of the estate are named after queens of England.
This area of Hammersmith also contains flats built by the Guinness Trust. The Peabody and Guinness Trusts were charitable organisations set up in the late nineteenth-century to provide homes for the less fortunate.
