The Good Intent has been the final remaining out of nine pubs to still be serving customers in East Street Market.
The Good Intent was rebuilt by Courage in the 1930s after they took over the pub from Day, Noakes & Sons.
The Good Intent, like all the pubs of East Street, used to have its own sheriff (’dealer’) who kept order amongst the clientele.
Pictures of Charlie Chaplin adorn the walls who, according to his autobiography, was born in East Street.
