It was built at the same time as both the North Circular Road and the A41 were built as major truck roads �’ an early example of joined up London transport planning. Reply
Reginald John Gregory Colindeep Lane, NW9 Added: 8 Aug 2022 14:07 GMT	Worked in the vicinity of my ancestor’s house, Between the years 1982-1998 (unknown to me at the time) I worked in an office close to the site of my ancestors cottage. I discovered this when researching family history - the cottage was mentioned in the 1871 census for Colindeep Lane/Ancient Street coming up from the Hyde. The family lived in the ares betwen 1805 and 1912. Reply

I was a breach birth and quite heavy ( poor Mum!). My parents moved to that end of terrace house from another rental in St Mary Cray where my three year older brother had been born in 1935. The estate was quite new in 1938 and all the properties were rented. My Father was a Postman. I grew up at no 28 all through WWII and later went to Little Dansington School Reply

Hyman Lubosky (age 35), his wife Fay (or Fanny)(age 32) and their son Martin (age 17 months) died at 11 Arbour Square. They are buried together in Rainham Jewish Cemetery. Their grave stones read: "Killed by enemy action" Reply

Grahame Park

Grahame Park was built on the site of the old Hendon Aerodrome.

The estate is named in honour of Claude Grahame-White, the aviation pioneer who established the Hendon Aerodrome and aviation school on the site. Most roads, blocks and walkways have names linked to the aviation history of the site.

The building of the estate was a joint project between the Greater London Council and Barnet Council. The estate was designed in a ’Brutalist. style and the first residents moved in during October 1971. Barnet Council is refurbishing much of the estate with a 2032 completion date.

The Royal Air Force Museum is situated immediately to the south-east of the estate.

Hendon was a Middlesex village, albeit large, until the arrival of the railway. The Midland Main Line reached Hendon in 1868 followed by London Underground further east under the name Hendon Central in 1923. The district is famous historically for the London Aerodrome which later became RAF Hendon.
