Austral Street runs from West Square to Brook Drive.
The 1829/30 Greenwood map indicates the existence of South Street (now Austral Street) and East Street (now Orient Street) had only been partially built on. Austral Street was a new name in 1882 so that South Street could be renamed to something which still meant ’south’ but avoided duplicating the names of other South Streets of London.
