Hind Street was laid out in 1848-1849 along with Thomas Street on the Horne/Hind estate.
Thomas Horne, a local landowner, owned four acres but he died in 1846. His widow subsequently married Andrew Hind, a local grocer.
The first of at least 125 building lots on the newly set out Thomas Street (eventually renamed Gough Street) and Hind Street were being sold in 1849.
Andrew Hind attempted to develop parts of the estate himself, but not very successfully, continuing to operate as a grocer, cheesemonger and tea-dealer, moving first to Limehouse, then to Pentonville, and declared bankrupt by 1857, to Stoke Newington.
Development was very slow, with only 17 houses by 1863.
Post-war it was replaced by Hind Grove.
