Rendle Street ran from Murchison Road to Telford Road.
Rendle Street’s history ended with the creation of the Wornington Green estate in 1964. The estate consisted of 538 flats in six-storey connected blocks. A study carried out in 2005 concluded that complete redevelopment was the best way to address problems on the high levels of both overcrowding and under-occupancy on the estate.
Hence Wornington Green in turn went under the bulldozer and the new Portobello Square design included 538 homes for housing association rent, other private sale properties and 20 new retail units.
