Ifor Evans Place is named after Sir Ifor Leslie Evans (1897-1952).
Ifor Evans was a British educationalist and university administrator who served as the Director of the University of London’s Institute of Education from 1932 to 1945.
During his tenure, Evans played a key role in expanding and developing the Institute of Education, which trained teachers and conducted research in education. He also served on several government committees related to education policy.
In addition to his work in education, Evans was involved in efforts to rebuild and improve conditions in the East End of London following the devastation of the Second World War. He chaired the Stepney Reconstruction Group, which aimed to address housing, education, and social issues in the area.
