Pirates were publicly hanged at Execution Dock in Wapping. The bodies of the pirates amongst them were placed in a cage and brought further downstream to Blackwall Point, the northernmost tip of the Greenwich Peninsula.
They would then be left in the cages and left to rot - a warning to ships passing through into London.
