Looking west across Westminster Bridge (1949)

This shows the Palace of Westminster on the left and St. Stephen's Club on the corner of Bridge Street and the Victoria Embankment.

Trams started to cross Westminster Bridge in late 1906 - they were originally operated by London County Council. Single deck trams used the Kingsway tram tunnel and onto north London, the double deckers ran along the Embankment and returned to south London via Blackfriars Bridge.

The very last tram in London ran on 5 July 1952.
