Brentham Garden Suburb in Ealing was the first garden suburb to be built on ‘Co-partnership’ principles and was an inspiration for the later, larger and more famous Hampstead Garden Suburb. This was a hundred acre dairy farm, worked in 1881 by Samuel Goddard and his wife Elizabeth. By 1913, the farm had disappeared, the land bisected by railway sidings and some houses built. In 1932 part of the former farm became the Drayton Green running track. The houses in the distance are in Kent Gardens and are some of the few which were constructed by Henry de Bruno Austin as part of Castle Hill Estate before he went bankrupt. Credit: G.
