Brunswick Square is the result of a sale of land by the Foundling Hospital.
The Foundling Hospital decided in 1790 to raise money by releasing its spare land for house building, resulting in the twin squares of
Brunswick Square and Mecklenburgh Square and a grid of
streets nearby, many by James Burton.
