Lisle Street leads east from Wardour Street.

Lisle Street was developed in two phases. The western half was constructed in 1682–3, occupying part of the former garden area of Leicester House.

In 1791 or 1792, Thomas Wright, a banker from Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, acquired Leicester House, its garden and its outbuildings. Wright extended Lisle Street eastward across the northern section of this property to connect with Little Newport Street. Initially, the extension of Lisle Street was named New Lisle Street.
