Wilcox Road is one of the shopping centres of the local Portuguese community.
Originally it ran to South Lambeth Road, but after it was hit by a V1 rocket during the Second World War, the eastern end of the street was redeveloped.
The location of the building which housed the laundrette in the movie ’My Beautiful Lauderette’ was in the street and it was given a rainbow plaque in 2021.
