Blackmores Grove commemorates R.D. Blackmore, author of Lorna Doone, which he wrote in Teddington.
R.D. Blackmore lived at Gomer House which was situated where Doone Close is today. He wrote his books to finance his main interest, market gardening and fruit growing.
The orchards were near the house but all that remains today are the cottages in Field Lane and Blackmores Grove, said to have been built for the workers on his estate.
