Sion Road was formerly Sion Row.

Sion Row was built in 1721 by Captain John Gray, but on a smaller scale than his other development - Montpelier Row.

Even in the 1760s John Gray’s son, Tufton, still owned half the houses in Sion Row. Inhabitants included the author, Laetitia Hawkins and her brother, the Comte de Jarnac (a French royalist exile) and the first local historian of Twickenham, Edward Ironside.
